Site Update, etc.

As you can see we have a fresh, clean new look here at M-burg Turkey Bowl. Hopefully all this work is worth it for the 3 weeks of the year we use this site. We may have to start incorporating some of these graphics on to T-shirts.
Weather:
There should be a new feature on the right showcasing the weather for Fisher Field. I'm currently seeing mixed reports. Some calling for 40-50% chance of showers, others just for clouds.

As you may or may not know, this is a rain or shine event. Weather conditions always make for a more memorable game.
Many moons ago, we had a snow game. It was poorly attended. I hauled in many long TD's. True story.

MEGA UPDATE

We have a lot to go over and only five days left to iron out our S.

Details have been very, very light from you all as if you're playing or not. I swear to God, you better not be keeping mum trying to see if something better might come along. I will send Chris after you and he will rip your arms off and use your head as a drum kit.

Best I can tell, these are the players:

1. Anthony
2. Chris
3. Me
4. Ty
5. Ira (in need of a sitter...downgraded to 25%)
6. Norm
7. Mike J.
8. Lewis
9. Hogg
10. Kurtis (assuming there's no impromptu Contra tournament to attend)
11. Chris's Co-worker (x2 or 3?)

I took some liberties on some of you above, just assuming you're playing, so if you're not going to show, please let us know so we can make sure we have enough.

Fella's I have no idea about their intentions:

1. Ben
2. Dan
3. Dave K.
4. Chad L.
5. Motz
6. Simmons
7. Willy

MIA's

1. Rose
2. Weaver

***PLEASE IF YOU HAVE AN UPDATE AND CAN HELP SOLIDIFY YOUR POSITION ON THIS LIST (i.e. doggy style) PLEASE LET ME KNOW. ***

GAME TIME DETAILS:

When: Friday, November 27, 2009
Time: 1 p.m.
Where: Fisher Park- Fisher Road, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055

As a reminder for the first time ever, we modified our tackle rules and went with this hybrid (which I feel worked out pretty....pretty good):

RULE CHANGE
It appears that the modified tackle/flag rule change will be adopted. I have 16 red and 16 yellow flagged belts. They are the kind that the entire belt comes off, not just the flag. To recap the rule:

To sack a QB behind the line of scrimmage, or down a receiver after a reception- Tackle

Running plays, or plays where a QB scramble past line of scrimmage- Flags.

Any other thoughts? You have five days to share your hair brain ideas.

EVENING POST GAME HAPPY FUN TIMES
I believe we're up for anything. (i.e. see you at Moe's.) Who ever gets there first, dump some popcorn on the floor for Norm.

Preseason Roster

We will start the preseason with as many names as I can remember. All the names below are Turkey Bowl alumn. Some are short timers, but all have felt the glory and the pain of Fisher Field. I will be adding % chance of appearances beside each name.

1. Cashman- (0%- Getting married the following day. Don't get me started on how many levels of wrong that is.)

2. Anthony- (98%- Very committed. Once played during his lunch break)

3. Adam D.- (0%- Injury bug has cut short his once dominant Turkey Bowl career)

4. Chris- (95%- There's always a 5% chance he'll either be suffering from some sort of montezuma's revenge or be sleeping one off in the clink for accidental use of rage. 100% chance of dipping in either scenario though.)

5. Me- (75%- There's a 25% chance my heart won't survive Thanksgiving)

6. Ty- (65%- Strong possibility he'll be making his triumphant return to the grid iron, unless he's working on my heart or all the PJ and Phillies post season time off has caught up to him)

7. Ben- (10%- There's a 90% chance he accidentally created new strain of black plague by not owning a trash can)

8. Dan- (15%- The younger Fugate brothers often come as a package deal. Plus Dan may be smarter than us all combined and realizes we're too old to do this anymore)

9. Ira- (85%- Depends on if he takes cyanide capsule Daniel Snyder sent all Redskin fans this season.)

10. Norm- (87%- Hopefully recovered from off season injury sustained while bench pressing porcelain cat.)

11. Mike J.- (5%- It's been a while since he's laced up. Just married, possibly retired early.)

12. Dave K.- (20%- After almost needing an entire rib cage transplant after his last appearance, this may be the best chance we have at a return visit from the former defensive MVP.)

13. Chad L.- (40%- Assuming he can avoid any over sized roadkill, there's a chance we'll be seeing Chad as long as the Flyer's don't pick him up as their 57 goalie in 3 years.)

14. Lewis- (99.9%- Almost as automatic as you can get, barring an embolism from watching Andy Reid's clock management.)

15. Motz - (15%- Jack should be old enough to sit on the sidelines and/or play, plus sleep deprivation never hurt any one's game...saddle up.)

16. Rose- (25%- He's already claiming he can't, but I'm leaving a glimmer of hope. Just pretend like this is Katrina and you're trying to get to Ty's bachelor party.)

17. Matt R- (0%- No idea what Rossello Bros. are up to.)

18. Simmons- (5%- I believe work commitments and/or severe hangovers have prevented him from much playing time. Too bad, the game could always use more Hogg relatives.)

19. Hogg- (85%- Hogg goes MIA for months and then just suddenly appears. (in my dreams) (sexually) Here's hoping his stone hands can find their way to Fisher. (as well as my heart) (and by heart I mean junk)

20. Kurtis- (19%- Can't remember when the last time we've seen this bacon connoisseur.)

21. Weaver- (13%- Has Weave ever played? Maybe back in High School? Regardless, just feel like he should be part of the list. Family golf commitments interfere. If there's poor weather he might be able to play. Although for the record, I think he should get his priorities straight. 1. Turkey Bowl 2. My feelings 3. Golf 4. Family 5. Aids in Africa)

22. Willy- (20%- Out of town. Married. With child. Historically not the greatest situation to be in and to try and play in this game. Will cover him for one play if he shows up.)

I know we've had assorted neighbors and co-workers play, but I can't think of their names. This list will be trimmed down as we get closer to our opening (only) day roster.

Sooooooo....What's New?

Alright a-holes. Yes, I know...it's F'n November 9th, and I haven't done S for Turkey Bowl XV. I've heard many concerns about the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks. Some have even asked if we are still playing... The thought of that makes me so sick.

Those that have asked that...or even secretly asked that, or have thought about secretly asking that, but then changed their mind to take a huge crapola...you now have a 85% chance of this happening to you:

We will always play this game. We will always play this game the day after Thanksgiving. If we don't hear from Hogg, we will just assume he will be there. I will be out of breath by the 3rd play. This is what we know.

What we don't know...and what we never know for sure, is who is playing. Lets get the annual roll call going, so we know how hard we'll have to canvas the area for bodies (to hit the floor).

Let me know, and I'll try to keep this updated until the day of the game. Pre-game/Post-game details to follow.

Non-Action Shots

As promised...a few pics...

He is a real american

The Honeymooners during happier times

More exciting non-action!

A sight rarer than a live dodo.
As actiony as any shot I got.

(We're going to need much more participation next year, I can't play every down and be expected to take pictures at the same time)

(i.e. take a breather)

BREAKING NEWS

THIS JUST IN....
A GAME PLAYED 14 DAYS AGO ENDED WITH A 12 - 11 SCORE!

Yes, this update is a long time coming. Hopefully our collective ancient memories can help us recall what transpired on that glorious Friday afternoon.

PREGAME

Once again we had our pregame meal at pizza town. Attendance was scarce. Lewis gave a leg drop to an entire pizza pie. It was magical.

Not so magical...people calling not knowing what's going on. [side rant] So...usually there are what...no less than 10 emails that fly around prior to the big day. Weather is updated...people playing is updated...the time and location of lunch and the game are stated. This year an entire website was devoted to this information as well. And still, some people had trouble finding their way to lunch, or didn't know what time the game started. HEY GUESS WHAT? IT'S BEEN THE SAME TIME FOR 14 YEARS!!!![end rant]

WHAT TIME IS IT? GAME TIME.

Worlds collided. Erno vs. Erno picking teams. The dip can was flipped to see who picked first. Sticker side up I picked. Bottoms up, Chris picks. Sticker side up, I pick Cashman first. Chris responds by picking his buddy from work to try and match our size. Norm is my next pick. Lewis is picked next by Chris. Match ups are looking pretty even. Anthony, Motz, and Rose round out my team. Ira, Anthony's Neighbor, and Hoggzilla round out Team Grizzly.

The dip can was flipped again to see who starts with the ball. The same scenario plays out and we get the ball first. This is where my memory gets foggy. Lack of oxygen and having to put my flag belt on after every five yards of movement left me distracted and disoriented through much of the game. I believe we turned the ball over on downs or via INT on our first drive. Norm had a TAINT (TD after INT) on Team Grizzly's first possession. We fell behind 2-1 after a passing and receiving TD from Chris. Both teams battled back and forth. We were up 6-5 at the half.

Shortly after the second half, Chris's Buddy from work goes out with an injury. In comes a fresh player, John. He makes an immediate impact with his speed and...for being in some sort of shape. (cheater)
The game is 11-11 and we're driving. We have a fourth and goal from the one foot line. Anthony scrambles, he's near the pylon...CONTROVERSY. It looked close, he might have had the ball over the plane, but his foot might have been out of bounds. Unfortunately, we couldn't review it since Andy Reid used both of our challenges during lunch.
[confused silence]

We're civil and we're men so we spot Team Grizzly with the ball at the one inch line. Figuring they'll have to drive 99.9 yards to score. Well...they did. Final score 12-11. What a game.

Chris claims he had 9 TD passes and 2 TD Receptions. Unfortunately I started Willie Parker over him for the 100th time this stupid fantasy season.

(I'll throw some more action shots up once I have them uploaded.)

POLLS

I will be putting up polls for offensive and defensive MVP's as well as play of the game. This is where I need your help. I can remember a few decent plays, please help me remember some more (for example, i know we had some long TD's, I just can't remember who all were involved):
  1. Norm's TAINT
  2. Deluca threading the needle (literally Brett Farving it between two defenders)
  3. Chris's prayer to mid field that Lewis made up about 10 nautical yards to dive and catch.
  4. Chris and BJ's "skirmish"
Also I'd like to vote for funniest subplots, and again I'll need some help...so far I have:
  1. Hogg's rising like a phoenix to reclaim his stony status
  2. Me being drug across the field by Anthony's neighbor's flag, to which he replies, "Oh...I guess I tied that on." No S.
  3. Speaking of belts, mine staying on as if I was made of water and it was oil. (If I didn't know any better, it would have been a genius idea to slow the game down so that I could catch my breath)
  4. The ceremonial dip can flips.
Again, I need all your help making my lists a little better. Once I get some input I'll erect some polls. (insert your own barn yard joke)

POST GAME

Another evening was spent at that legendarily classy joint known as Moe's. No one was too sore to lift a few or to do a little light house keeping...

The best part about this story is that the waitress remembers someone vacuuming once a year. I suppose we all have to be remembered for something. Norm's tombstone will read, "That dude who vacuumed once a year on black friday." (pending size of tombstone, we may just need to stick with "Douchebag")

(I kid because I care)

BONUS FEATURES

Because not everyone made it out to Roseband 08 after the Hockey Game on Saturday. For your listening pleasure...

Check back for photo updates (I promise it will happen in this calendar year!)
